- How do I apply to a dormitory?
Members of Colleges for Advanced Studies: Each college may allocate a certain number of places to its members according to its own internal rules. For more information on the colleges, visit: https://ppke.hu/szakkollegiumok
Deprived students at the University: The majority of places in Dormitory is allocated on the basis of financial need. Applications are accepted once a year, during the summer period. The application process is carried out jointly by the Student Council and the Dormitory Management. For information on how to apply for admission, click here on the institutional level application form for Dormitories (701-702).
International students: The dormitory has a certain number of places reserved for international students participating in SH, SCY, Erasmus K171 and Erasmus Mundus programs. Unfortunately, due to the limited number of places available, we are currently unable to accept students who come from other international programme or other types of Erasmus programs. These places are allocated by the International Offices of the Faculties, according to their own internal rules.
They can be contacted via the following links:
International Relations Office, ITK
The dormitory ONLY accepts international students through the International Offices, so all applicants are kindly requested to contact them first.
- On what basis does the International Office make its decision?
International students are admitted to the dormitory by the International Offices, based on their own internal rules, so in all cases the International Office should be contacted first in order to apply. Once admitted, the international students will be contacted by the dormitory, and from then on, they will have to communicate directly with the dormitory on all matters concerning housing (arrival, move-in, move-out).
- Who decides in which building and in which room the student is placed?
The dormitory management. In every regular admission period we send out a questionnaire asking who would like to live in which room, or with which roommates, and we try to take this into account when allocating rooms, but in many cases the possibilities are very limited, so as much as we would like to, we probably cannot fully meet everyone's requests in the end.
We will never force anyone into a more expensive room than they would like, but it is possible that there is too much demand for these more expensive rooms (1-2 people), and we cannot provide them for everyone.
For those who got accepted and placed in a vacant room during the academic year, we are unfortunately unable to send a request form, they will have to choose from the current (limited) options.
It's important that if you want to share a room with someone, they have to ask to be in the room with you as well, as we are unfortunately unable to accept unilateral requests.
- What types of rooms are available (single, double, shared)?
The dormitory offers single, twin, triple and quadruple rooms each featuring a private bathroom and kitchenette, sink and a refrigerator. About further features, services and costs, see: https://ppke.hu/en/dormitory-2
- Is there an accommodation guarantee for international students?
No, available places in the dormitory are quite limited; therefore, as of yet, we cannot guarantee accommodation for all incoming international students. It is strongly recommended for international students to look for alternative housing services before their arrival.
- What are the dormitory fees and payment schedules?
In the academic year of 2025-2026 the dorm fees are as follows:
Múzeum utca building:
Single room: 105.000 HUF / month (limited availability)
Twin room (with two separate beds): 75.000 HUF / month (limited availability)
Triple and quadruple rooms: 40.000 HUF / month.
Bihari utca building:
Twin and triple rooms: 40.000 HUF / month.
To calculate the exact amounts, see the current HUF exchange rates: MNB.hu
About further features, services, see: https://itk.ppke.hu/en/housing.
- How can I pay the dormitory fee?
Dormitory fees shall be paid monthly in the study administration system of the university called ‘Neptun’. The deadline for payment is the 10th of every month, except September and February.
There are still a lot of changes in the first month of the semester, so the deadline for these months is the 10th of the following month (i.e. October and March). All dorm fees for the semester are usually issued at the beginning of the semester all at once, so you can pay them all in advance if you wish.
- What’s the address of the dormitory?
There are currently two dormitory buildings operated by the University’s Pázmány Péter Unified Dormitory.
The St. Madeleine Sophie Barat building (commonly known as the Múzeum utca [street] building) is in the city centre, near Kálvin Tér, at Múzeum utca (1088 Budapest, Múzeum utca 19.),
while the Pázmány Péter building (commonly known as the Bihari utca building) is located in the X. district, in the corner of Balkán utca and Bihari út, 7 minutes from the “Ecseri utca” metro station, next to the “Balkán utca” tram stop (1107 Budapest, Balkán utca 1/F.)
Currently 70% of our international students live in the Múzeum utca building, but we also have international students living in the Bihari utca building.
ROOMS AND FACILITIES
- What furniture and amenities are provided in the rooms?
In the Múzeum utca building, the dormitory offers single, twin, triple and quadruple rooms grouped in apartments for three or four persons. Each apartment has a private bathroom and kitchenette, a washing machine, a stove and a refrigerator. As for the furniture, standard rooms include bunkbeds, desks and chairs, wardrobes and bedside tables. Bedding (pillow and duvet) is provided. A separate study room is available for students.
The building on Bihari utca has 2 and 3-bed rooms, each of which forms a five- person apartment. All beds are single, there are no bunkbeds in the building. Each apartment has a kitchenette, a bathroom and a separate toilet. All the rooms have their own air conditioning unit. There are several common rooms in the building: washing machines are available in the laundry room, the common kitchen has a microwave and a stove, and there is also a study room and a lecture hall.
- Are bed linens and towels provided, or should I bring my own?
Pillow and duvet are provided, but we can only provide you with bed linen (sheets, duvetcase and pillowcase) for the first month after you move in, after that you'll have to buy your own. Students have to bring their own towels.
- Is there Wi-Fi available in the dormitory?
Both buildings have WiFi, but no Ethernet connection is available.
- Are the rooms equipped with air conditioning/heating?
Both buildings have central heating, but air conditioning is only available in the Bihari utca dorm, the Museum Street dorm is a historical building, so it is not possible to install such a system.
- Is there a kitchen in the dormitory, and what appliances are available?
The Múzeum utca building has a kitchen with a stove, but no electric oven, or microwave (many students chose to bring their own microwave. In the building on Bihari Street, there is no stove in the kitchenette, but multiple stoves, microwaves and ovens are available in the communal kitchen.
In both of our buildings, you can bring in your own safe and damage-free (see electrical device inspection for details) microwave, kettle or air fryer.
You cannot bring in a mini oven, immersion heater, washing machine, dishwasher or refrigerator.
As the dormitory is set up for long-term, multi-year residence, we don’t provide dining and cooking utensils, you will need to bring (or buy here) the equipment you would like to use.
- What electrical equipment can I bring into the building?
Most electrical devices are free to be stored and used in the building, but all devices that use mains electricity must pass an electrical device inspection (details on the website).
It is important to note that any valuable devices in the building are at the student's own risk.
It is strictly forbidden to keep or charge electric transport devices (electric scooters, bicycles or scooters) in both buildings.
- What kind of vehicles can I bring into the building?
There are bicycle storage facilities in both buildings, and bicycles can be brought in and stored freely in the designated area.
No vehicles with internal combustion engines (motorbikes, cars) may be parked permanently in the dormitory, parking is only possible in the Bihari utca building, and only allowed on an occasional basis, subject to special permission.
It is strictly forbidden to keep or charge electric transport devices (electric scooters, bicycles or scooters) in both buildings.

- Is there a gym or fitness center in the dormitory?
The dorms do not have their own gym, but there are such facilities available near both buildings.
LIVING ARRANGEMENTS
- Is it possible to request a single room, where I can stay alone?
The dormitory offers single and double rooms at higher prices in the Múzeum Street building, however since the number of available rooms are quite limited; therefore, as of yet, we cannot guarantee that your request for a single room will be approved. It should be added that the single rooms are also arranged in apartments, so although you will have your own room, you will still share the kitchen and bathroom with the occupants of another single or double room. In Museum Street, all apartments have their own key (you are expected to lock them in security) but rooms within the apartments cannot be locked.
- Can I choose my roommate, or will one be assigned to me?
The dormitory management reserves the right to decide the allocation of the rooms and places, but we try to take into account the requests of the students. A questionnaire will be sent out after admission to address similar issues.
- Is the dormitory co-ed, do boys and girls stay in separate areas?
Although the dormitory itself is co-ed, by default there are separate boys' and girls' apartments and rooms. Each apartment is equipped with its own toilet, bathroom and essentials, so you only have to share these with your closest roommates.
- Are there any quiet hours or curfews in the dormitory?
There is no curfew, students living in the dormitory are able to leave or enter the building without any restrictions. According to the regulations, the hours from 22:00 to 06:00 (and 0-24 during exam periods) are quiet hours, when residents must refrain from making any noise and must not disturb other residents of the dormitory.
- Are guests allowed to visit or stay overnight?
Students can host visitors during the day until 22:00 in their rooms (all guests must be registered) but there is no possibility for guests to stay overnight in the dorm.
- Are there any regulations regarding alcohol and smoking in the dormitory?
Smoking is strictly prohibited throughout the dormitory, including rooms, corridors, and all common areas. In the Múzeum utca building smoking is prohibited even in the central courtyard and only permitted at least 5 meters away from the building's borders and entrances. Smoking is also prohibited in the Bihari út building, but there are several designated smoking spots in the building's garden.
There are no direct rules against consuming alcohol, but nonetheless, everyone still has to respect all the other rules, for example on night-time silence and the maintaining of cleanliness.
SAFETY AND SECURITY
- What security measures are in place at the dormitory?
Key fob entry system ensures that only authorized individuals can enter the building and rooms within the dormitory. The on-site reception is available 24/7 to monitor the premises and respond to incidents. Checking in and identification for all visitors are mandatory, with restrictions on visiting hours. Smoke detectors, fire alarms, sprinkler systems, and fire extinguishers are installed throughout the dormitory.
- Is there a front desk or security staff available 24/7?
The building on Múzeum utca has a 0-24 reception together with the neighbouring Sophianum building, while Bihari út has its own 0-24 reception.
They are available at all times to monitor the premises and respond to incidents.
- Are there any medical services or support available on-site?
Not on-site. The University insures its Hungarian, SH, SCY and intra-EU Erasmus students at the Szt. Kristóf Klinika (IX. Fehérvári út 12.), even if they do not have a local address. They can turn here for help.
MOVING IN AND OUT
- I applied successfully, when can I move into the dormitory?
The earliest date for moving in is set by the dormitory management before the academic year. It is usually 1 September.
- What is the procedure for checking in and out of the dormitory?
All students who have successfully applied to the dormitory are required to check in and sign a dormitory contract upon arrival. Please inform the dorm management of your arrival as soon as possible, preferably as soon as you have bought your flight ticket. They would also like to know your move-out date as soon as possible, but no later than one week before you move out. You will find a detailed description of the move-in and move-out process on the website:
It is important to note that if you wish to terminate your dorm contract before its expiration date (30 June), you must do so during the month before your last month by filling in and submitting the form on the website. For example, if you wish to leave the dorm during November, you must notify the management during October and pay in full for the month of November that you have started. If you only indicate during November that you would like to move out during the month, you can move out of course, but you’ll still have to pay the December fee.
- Can I stay in the dormitory during holidays and breaks?
On paper, the University has the right to ask students to move out during school breaks longer than 7 days, but in practice it rarely exercises this right with Hungarian students and never with international students.
During the summer break (July-August), different rules apply to the dorms. During this period, due to renovations and other programmes, the number of places in the buildings are limited, although international students have priority for available places. For the summer period, a separate contract with the dormitory must be signed, the monthly fees may vary, and it is likely that the student will have to move to another room (or even another dormitory building) to make efficient use of the space.
ADDITIONAL SERVICES
- Are meal plans available?
Food and meals are not provided by the dormitory.
The Múzeum utca building is in the city centre, within walking distance from several canteens, restaurants and supermarkets.
The building on Bihari út has a coffee and snack machine on site, a grocery store open 0-24 within 2 minutes of walk, and several supermarket fast food places and restaurants within 5-7 minutes.
- Are there any cleaning services for the rooms or common areas?
The dormitory staff regularly cleans the hallways and common areas to maintain a clean and hygienic environment for everyone. However, students are responsible for cleaning their own rooms and are expected to keep the common areas tidy after use. This collaborative effort helps ensure a pleasant living space for all residents.
- How can I receive mail and packages at the dormitory?
In the building on Múzeum utca, parcels are delivered to the 0-24 reception of the neighbouring Sophianum campus building, where they can be picked up in person, or, every few days, the dormitory management will also collect the mail and parcels and take them to the rooms, or inform the student to come and collect them during office hours.
The building on Bihari utca has its own 0-24 hour reception, they receive the mail/packages and you can pick it up from them.
For both buildings, it is true that they do not accept any packages where they would have to pay upon delivery, and certified letters requiring a signature are sent to the central university letter distribution first, and only then to the building.
- Are there any support services for international students (language assistance, cultural activities)?
The dorm has a mentor system where older students can help you. If you have any questions about the dormitory and housing, you can also contact the dormitory management. For other questions, contact your programme coordinator or the International Office.
- Is there storage available for my belongings during breaks or vacations?
Unfortunately, the dormitory buildings are at maximum capacity, and we do not have a storage room where you can safely store your luggage. You can store your belongings in your room while you are a resident of the dormitory. For this reason, if you are a dorm resident, please be in Budapest on the dates when a new dormitory period starts (30 June, 31 August), because you may not get a dormitory place for the next period, or you may be moved to another room and need to move your things.
