Pázmány delegation visits Kyrgyzstan

2025.03.13.

A delegation of our university's international staff visited Bishkek, the capital city of Kyrgyzstan, where they also visited the local Catholic community, and the Embassy of Hungary.

Kyrgyzstan, like other Central Asian countries, has a Muslim majority, but there are also a significant number of Russian Orthodox Christians and a small Catholic community. The delegation was welcomed by Anthony James Corcoran, S.J., Vicar Apostolic, and Remigiusz Kalski, Parish Priest, from whom we learned a lot of interesting information about the past and present of the Catholic community in Kyrgyzstan.

Both of them highly appreciated the visit of a European Catholic university and said that they would be very glad if our University would participate in the theological project titled "Faith and Reason", dealing with Central Asian Christianity, in which several of our partner universities, including the Gregorian University in Rome and the Ignatianum in Krakow, are already participating. Mr. György Tar, Consul of Hungary, also attended the meeting, on behalf of the Embassy of Hungary in Bishkek.

Following the church meeting, the program continued at the Embassy of Hungary in Bishkek, where the delegation was received by Consul György Tar and First Deputy Diplomat Zsolt Maris. During the conversation, the parties reviewed the opportunities inherent in the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Program and inter-university relations.
