International Cooperation Agreement Between Pázmány Péter Catholic University and University Ibnou Zohr

2026.06.08.

Pázmány Péter Catholic University and the Moroccan-based University Ibnou Zohr in Agadir have taken an important step toward strengthening their international relations by signing an international cooperation agreement.

The partnership was initiated by Dr. Károly Dániel Dobos, PhD, Head of the Department of Arabic Studies at the Institute of Classical and Modern Philology. The first contact was established during a partner-search seminar organized by the Tempus Public Foundation in Morocco in April 2025. This event provided Hungarian higher education institutions with an excellent opportunity to connect with Moroccan universities and initiate collaborative partnerships.

Following the initial contact, discussions between the two institutions progressed rapidly. In autumn 2025, a representative of the Moroccan partner university visited Pázmány Péter Catholic University. During the visit, meetings were held with representatives of the Central Office for Foreign Affairs as well as the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The primary focus of the discussions was the possibility of applying jointly within the framework of the Erasmus KA171 programme.

The success of these negotiations is demonstrated by the fact that the Department of Arabic Studies submitted a joint Erasmus KA171 application with University Ibnou Zohr in the 2026 call, aiming to implement reciprocal mobility activities for students and staff.

To further strengthen the emerging partnership, the two universities formalized their cooperation through a general agreement. The agreement is focusing on collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including student and staff exchange programmes, joint research projects and publications, conference organization, and the development of shared courses and curricula.

This cooperation is expected to open new perspectives for both institutions, promoting the expansion of academic networks and deepening international scientific collaboration.
