Dr. MAJOR Balázs, head of the Archaeology Department at PPCU, Vice Dean for International Affairs at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, founder and president of the the Syro-Hungarian Archaeological Mission has been leading the excavation of Castle of Margat since 2007. The crusader castle is considered one of the most significant Christian heritage site, and the Hungarian archaeological team has not abandoned it even after the outbreak of fights in 2011.

Since 2008 the Parliament awards the European Citizen’s Prize every year to projects and initiatives that facilitate cross-border cooperation or promote mutual understanding within the EU. The prize, which has symbolic value, is also intended to acknowledge the work of those who through their day-to-day activities promote European values.

The European Parliament has honored 50 people and organizations from 26 EU countries with this year's Citizen's Prize for their contribution to European cooperation and the promotion of common values. The jury, headed by Parliament Vice-President Sylvie Guillaume, selected the 2016 laureates after a consultation of the 79 proposals that made it through to the national juries. The national award ceremonies will be followed by a central ceremony, to be held in October 2016 in the Parliament in Brussels.

The other Hungarian winner is Catholic priest KOZMA Imre, leader and co-founder of the Hungarian Maltese Charity.
