The second century Greek apologists (Aristides, Justin, Tatianus, Athenagoras, and Theophilus of Antioch) defended Christianity against the charges leading to persecution. They are important also because of their theological ideas and the rhetoric used to express their thoughts. They also developed moral norms that reflected biblical and Stoic precedent.
