2021. július 23-án, pénteken az Üldözött keresztények megsegítéséért és a Hungary Helps program támogatásáért felelős Államtitkárság búcsúztató ebédet szervezett az Ösztöndíjprogram Keresztény Fiataloknak program keretében idén diplomát szerző hallgatóknak, melyen 39 hallgató vett részt hét felsőoktatási intézményből (Budapesti Műszaki és Gazdaságtudományi Egyetem, Debreceni Egyetem, Eötvös Loránd Tudományegyetem, Magyar Agrár- és Élettudományi Egyetem, Óbudai Egyetem, Pázmány Péter Katolikus Egyetem, Pécsi Tudományegyetem).
A találkozó helyszíne a gróf Széchenyi István gőzhajó volt. A fogadáson Azbej Tristan, államtitkár és Herczegh Anita, a Hungary Helps Alapítvány jószolgálati nagykövete köszöntötte az idén végzett, üldözött keresztény háttérből érkezett Ösztöndíj Keresztény Fiataloknak ösztöndíjas hallgatókat. A búcsúebéden több hallgató is kifejezte mély háláját a magyar kormány iránt, hogy az ösztöndíj program keretein belül hazánkban Mesterfokozatú diplomát szerezhettek, illetve többen közülük PhD fokozatra is nyertek ösztöndíjat a továbbtanuláshoz. Az ösztöndíjas hallgatók egy-egy jelképes, Hungaricumot tartalmazó ajándékcsomagot vehettek át az államtitkártól. Az esemény kötetlen beszélgetéssel zárult, melyen az ösztöndíjas hallgatók megoszthatták személyes élményeiket az államtitkárral és Herczeg Anitával.
A Pázmány Péter Katolikus Egyetemet két hallgató képviselte, akik a Bölcsészettudományi illetve az Információs Technológiai és Bionikai Karon végeztek idén.
Festive farewell lunch for SCYP scholarship holders
The Scholarship Program for Christian Young People (SCYP) was founded in 2017 by the Government of Hungary and is managed by the State Secretariat for the Aid of Persecuted Christians and for the Hungary Helps Program since August 2020.
The core mission of the SCYP is to provide opportunities to pursue higher education studies in Hungarian host institutions for Christian youth living in crisis regions of the world or being threatened in their countries because of their faith.
After completing their studies, the scholarship holders can become the catalysts of the development of their countries and contribute to building capacities and strengthening resilience at the local level with their knowledge acquired in Hungary upon return to their homelands.
On 23rd July 2021. the State Secretariat for the Aid of Persecuted Christians and for the Hungary Helps Program organised a farewell lunch to holders of the Scholarship for Christian Young People. The lunch was offered to students who have just graduated in Hungary and are about to return to their home countries. During the festive reception, the young students coming from persecuted Christian minorities worldwide received a special Hungarian gift package to remember Hungary as their second home.
Two Masters graduates from Pázmány Péter Catholic University (one from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and one from the Faculty of Information Technology and Bionics) participated in the event, which was held on the board of vintage steamboat „Count István Széchényi". Tristan Azbej, State secretary and Mrs. Anita Herczegh, Goodwill ambassador of Hungary Helps Foundation, delivered a farewell speech to the recently graduated international Christian students.
On behalf of his fellow students coming from a persecuted Christian minority, several thanked the state secretariat in his own name as well as for the opportunity to study as SCYP scholarship holders several young scholarship holders. Some students presented the State Secretary with symbolic gifts as well.
Every year, 100 young Christian people are awarded this special scholarship. This semester, approximately 50 scholarship holders graduated from different universities all around Hungary, and 39 participated in the farewell reception. All alumni expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to study in a safe environment in Hungary, gaining state-of-the-art knowledge. They also promised that they will do their best to support their Christian communities after returning home, contributing to a better future for their home country by making good use of the knowledge acquired during their studies.
