FIDE Congress 2016

The Federation International de Droit Européen (FIDE), or the International Federation for European Law was founded in 1961 in Brussels for the purpose of development of the European Law in accordance with the newly practiced and slowly realizing harmonization activities. The FIDE work primarily takes place at the national member organizations, and from its foundation a congress is hosted by one of the national organizations in every second year, constantly shaped and enriched with pre-laid tradition and attended by hundreds.

The president of the international organization FIDE is chosen in turns from directors of the next hosting national institutions. It was decided in 2010 that the host country of the congress held in 2016 shall be Hungary, thus for  the 2014-2016 term the President and Vice President are Dr. DARÁK Péter, President of Curia of Hungary and Dr. VARGA Zs. András, Dean of PPCU’s Law Faculty respectively. The Hungarian branch of FIDE has proposed the main questions of the 2016 Conference to be the European Bank Union, the collective and private issues of European competition law, and regulatory functions and responsibilities between the Union and its Member States.

In addition plenary sessions will be held on the first and last day of the Congress, which will discuss the key issues of European integration – namely the question of the European law’s identity in 2016, the EU's external relations with great stress on the TTIP (the draft of Free Trade Agreement made between the European Union and the United States).

The opening plenary session was held on 2016. May 19 where on behalf of the organizers the participants were greeted by Dr. DARÁK Péter, President of the Curia and the FIDE and Dr. SZUROMI Szabolcs DSc., President of PPCU. In his opening speech the President of PPCU has emphasized the importance of developing the new European rule of law, the Ius Commune Europae, which could manifest as the codification of international private law as a field enabling both the fulfilment of integration and the features of national law. The following dignitaries have presented speeches during the opening ceremony: Dr. Koen LEANERTS Professor of KU Leuven and President of the European Court of Justice, Dr. TRÓCSÁNYI László, Minister of Department of Justice, Dr. Francisco Fonseca MORILLO, Director for Criminal Justice Issues at the European Commission Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers.
