On March 19, 2018 the Rector of Pázmány Péter Catholic University (PPCU) endorsed new, internationally acclaimed cooperation in Germany to ensure the highest possible level of education and research of the Armenian studies.

As the result of the agreement signed in Berlin by Prof. Szabolcs Szuromi, Rector of PPCU and Barbara Schneider-Kempf, the Director General of Berlin State Library (Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin – Preußischer Kulturbesitz), the Berlin State Library will support the expansion of PPCU's library inventory of Armenian studies, as well as providing its outstanding medieval and early-modern Armenian manuscripts for the organization of joint exhibitions. In addition PPCU's students and academic staff will be welcomed in Berlin to accommodate their research work.

Mehline Pehlavanian, Deputy Head of the Oriental Studies Department of Berlin State Library ensured the Parties of her professional support and undertook the organization of an Armenian Manuscript (Scriptorium) workshop to be held in autumn of 2019 with the goal of introducing PPCU's students to the Armenian Paleography.

The Rector of PPCU was also welcomed by Ashot Smbatyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia, resident in Berlin, Germany. The Parties agreed on the importance of PPCU's Department of Armenian and Southeastern European / Regional History Studies and its activities, noting in particular their role in the ongoing settlement of Armenian-Hungarian relations.
Afterwards the PPCU delegation traveled to Leipzig, where an exemplary trilateral agreement was signed between PPCU, the Leibniz Institute for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe (GWZO), a research institute committed to the history of Eastern Europe and one of the most important Armenian association, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

One of the common goals in particular is to research and teach the history, current structure and process of the Armenian Diaspora (Central and Eastern European Armenian and the West Armenian Diaspora).
Dr. Razmik Panossian, Director of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation emphasized that such international cooperation has not yet been realized before, and in itself should be regarded as a milestone. Dr. Christian Lübke, Director of GWZO has expressed his joy that the Programme of Armenian Studies, which has been in operation since 2008 is able to become an important international player through the agreement, and is also reinforced by its own series of books, which publications have already produced noteworthy results.
According to the agreement, PPCU may receive five scholarship students from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation at the beginning, and the Foundation will support the joint exhibition of the GWZO, the PPCU and the National Library of Armenia, which is to be held in February 2019 in the National Széchenyi Library at the invitation of its Director-General, Dr. László Tüske with the theme of 'the Bible's role in Armenian society'.

The trilateral agreement involves an international summer university in Budapest during the summer of 2019, which will encompass a study tour to visit Transylvanian, Moldavian and Galician Armenian diasporas. The importance of the latter was highlighted by Dr. Stefan Troebst, deputy director of the GWZO.
Besides Prof. Szabolcs Szuromi, the Rector of PPCU the Hungarian delegation included Prof. Sándor Őze, Head of the Institute of History and Dr. Bálint Kovács, Head of the Department of Armenian and Southeastern European / Regional History Studies who is also responsible for the preliminary preparation of the above mentioned agreements.
