Religion and Society in Europe from the Middle Ages to the Modern Times

The National Library of Russia in St. Petersburg served the hosting venue for the scientific conference co-organized by Saint Petersburg State University titled ' Religion and Society in Europe from the Middle Ages to the Modern Times' between 23rd and 24th of October.
The attendees included Professor Szabolcs Szuromi, President of PPCU and Head of the International Canon Law History Research Center, who was also carrying out his yearly in-depth research at the site.

Professor Szuromi has not only successfully identified text fragments belonging to Collectio Hibernensis on the 23rd of October, but managed to determine the origin date for the oldest Latin codex in the hand-written inventory of scripts in the National Library of Russia in St. Petersburg (end of the 6th century), demonstrating further example to the already stated proofs strengthening his thesis about the early contingency of Irish manuscripts on the Mainland, the reciprocal circulation of scripts between Ireland and the Continent and the correlative influence on each other. The codex in question was not only cataloged by its place of origin (including the Scriptorium in charge of the copies), but regarding its contents and time of production Professor Szuromi was able to pinpoint the date within the threshold of four years, including its first, second and third possessors with the details of the manuscript being sent to St. Petersburg.

The results together with the identification of the Collectio Hibernensis fragments earned a strong echo in St. Petersburg and in the international professional circle as well, with regard to the ongoing international conference's publicity.
This is the biggest rearrangement of Pre-Gratianus collections in the last fifteen years. Considering the facts regarding the Irish influence this is the most significant discovery in the Latin Canonical manuscripts for more than a century.
