The roots of Christianity in Poland

2016.04.20.

For the 1050th anniversary of Poland’s Christianization the Polish Embassy in Hungary and the Polish Institution of Budapest has thrown a celebrating religious debate with the participation of TAPOLCAI Laszlo (historian of Eötvös Loránd University) and prof. Dr. SZUROMI Szabolcs , President of PPCU. The event received much recognition, some of the audience couldn’t even fit into the theatre where the match took place. Did the Christianization took place in 965 or 966?  It is undisputedly hard to discuss events of a millennial age, but the above mentioned scholars can sure build up an argumentation.

Part of the on-going series of History lessons about Freedom, the President of PPCU and Laszlo TAPOLCAI, Polonist, author of Poland’s historical and mythical beginning has discussed the topic with a vast difference of perspectives with the moderator of the debate being none other, than SZERDAHELYI Csongor, previous editor of the Catholic Radio.

Right at the start the audience could enjoy the movie of Tomasz BAGIŃSKI, titled the Animated History of Poland. After that the Polish Ambassador, Roman Kowalski and the leader of the Polish Institute, Katarzyna SITKO emphasized the significance of the jubilee, which is truly reflected by the effort put into the chain of festive events in Poznan by the Catholic and Lay community. The audience was also invited to the Youth Days in July in Poznan, on which even Pope Francis will participate.

As the next step of the commemoration, a Mass with musical concert was held on the 16th of April with Elżbieta TOWARNICKA (treble), Jacek OZIMKOWSKI (bass) and Marek STEFAŃSKI (organ player) performing.
